During my time in clinic, I was able to provide oral hygiene instructions to each of my patients showing them proper ways to brush that would most benefit them as well as the proper way to use string floss. These oral hygiene instructions were completed using a combination of plaque indices and visual aids. Additionally, the show, tell, do method was used to help demonstrate the proper way to implement the new brushing and flossing habits. Additionally, during the Fall semester of 2024, I was able to provide patients with tobacco and nutrition counseling. The counseling sessions were completed using visual aids, websites, phone apps, and chairside assistance. The counseling sessions began with an overall assessment seeing their current habits and seeing how the habits could improve. The follow-up appointment assessed how their habits have changed for the good or bad and encouraged them to keep trying to make improvements.
